Booklovers and disgruntled NYT ex-forumers feel free to drop on by. If there is interest, I can create an open password so that you may enter your own posts on any book related topic you choose....each post would then have it's own comments.

Don't know how this will work out, but I'm willing to give it a try.

I hate that I always add the inappropriate apostrophe to "its."

Well, this looks like a very nice alternative to the NYT. But what about the ignore feature they have over there? How ever will we get along without THAT?

Also, is there a way to create threads, or is that function reserved exclusively to the hostess. If the latter, might the hostess consider a thread for Beowulf (or perhaps one for Ancient Literature in general)?

Either way, it is very comforting to me to know this alternative is available in case the NYT threads are eliminated. Thank you, lhoffman12, for setting this up.

lhoffman -

I tried to build a cooking blog, and I confess to being too dumb to figure out how you allow anyone to post whether they have a google account or not. Could you set up another blog for the Dining forums guys??? Thanks.

Who is BooksRUs??

BooksRUs - Who are you? Who-who, who-whO????

Looks like you might set thread titles, subjects or authors in the space reserved for your posts and then make your comments where everyone else does.

The main page colors are difficult. maybe its print size

BParton...I've looked at your cooking blog. I think if you have two blogs, you have to change the settings for each one individually. So you would log into your cooking site, go to the dashboard, select comment options. Once you are there, you need to select the option that allows all comments. Then be sure to save.

I'm trying to figure out all the ins and outs of this. Hey...if teenagers can figure it out, I'm pretty sure I can too.

JrClark...thanks for the comments. There are several backgrounds to choose from. I don't know if I can change the print size. I'll look around and see what's what.

Is there a topic you'd like me to post for comment?

Would you guys believe they BANNED me from the forums, I guess for posting blog links and being an ingrate??? SHEESH!!!!! What a bunch of putzes!!!!!!!

bparton454 said...

Oh, and Laurie, I finally figure out how to make my blogs available to everyone, both of them.

BParton...Why would they ban anyone at this point? I wonder if I'm banned too. I suppose I'll find out soon enough if I try to post something.

Because they CAN, I guess. Honestly, that lecture Lesley_NYTjerkface posted this morning just makes me nuts. She must be the one who banned me. Unreal.

I was going to try to post to your Pale Fire comment, but there's no "post a comment" link when you're over there.

I am interested in your comment about Osvaldo Golijov's "Ainadamar". I have been thinking of ordering it, but wasn't sure. Now I will. I treasure your oomments in the book forums.

Kitp, Thank you for the nice remark and if you do get Golijov's "Ainadamar" let me know how you like it.

I noticed on Bparton's site that you are reading "Speak, Memory." I just finished it before I begun "Pale Fire" and I found it absolutely beautiful. It reminded me of the little Proust I've read, but that makes sense as Nabokov was a big Proust reader.

Will you be joing the "Lolita" discussion at NYT?

> I wonder what the best way of reading it might be.

The author tells the reader at the beginning how to read it. I forgot how that is but why choose another?

Re: site

It looks as tho you might shorten the first post in a thread in order for a sort of "contents" to appear in full on the home page along with the number of comments. Indicating "new" posts is another problem.

The NYT site has its faults, but it is the best I've seen and although this and bp's are fine alternatives which I will frequent, I'm not ready to leave quite yet.

JrClark...the real drawback I see is in indicating new posts. Perhaps if a post gets ungainly, start up a second post on the same subject as a continuation.

I'm also reading and posting at the NYT as long as possible, but I thought I'd set this up beforehand in case anyone would like to use it...now or later. Please drop by to post anytime!

I would like to ask a question. I have the Annotated Lolita, but I'm having trouble with one eye and wonder if Lolita, read by Jeremy Irons from Audible would have accurate text so that I could follow along with the book.

I'm looking at the Random House site, and it looks like it is the complete novel. How fun...to be read to by the likes of Jeremy Irons...swoon.
